Narrative:
During the month of September 2018, a Thousand Oaks resident suffered a non-fatal heroin overdose that required medical treatment to prevent the incident from becoming a fatal overdose. The Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) was called in to assist with the investigation which ultimately led to the identification of Jose Huete as the source of supply of a large amount of methamphetamine and heroin to residents of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

On November 28, 2018, detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) assisted by the Ventura County East County Street Narcotic’s Team and the Simi Valley Police Department concluded a two-month narcotic investigation into Jose Huete.

Detectives located and detained Huete in Van Nuys and served a signed search warrant on his person, vehicle and at his residence. During this investigation, detectives were able to seize approximately 27 pounds of methamphetamine, one pound of heroin, 130 Vicodin pills, a small amount of ecstasy, four handguns and a ballistic vest. The search also revealed a large amount of U.S. currency that was deemed to be the proceeds of illegal narcotic sales.

Huete was booked into custody at the Ventura County Sheriff’s East County Jail facility for 11370.1(a) H&S – possession of a controlled substance with a firearm, 11351(a) H&S – possession for sale of a controlled substance, 11378 H&S – possession for sale of a controlled substance and 29800(b) PC- felon in possession of a firearm. Additional charges are also being considered based on Huete’s lengthy past felony criminal history. Huete’s bail was set at $500,000.

The Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit is a task force made up of members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Thousand Oaks Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Simi Valley Police Department, and the Ventura Police Department. The primary mission of the task force is combatting the transfer of legal prescription medication to the illegal market. In addition, the task force works to identify and stop new trends of abuse among the younger population and investigates overdoses due to both prescription medication and illicit drug use.
